BACKGROUND

  1. Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adebukanla ADESANYA was born in Lagos, Nigeria on 21 April 1969 to Chief Moses Adesanya Soyemi and late Mrs Esther Oluyombo Soyemi. He enlisted into the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna on 27 September 1985 as a member of the 37th Regular Combatant Course. He was subsequently commissioned to the rank of Pilot Officer, in the Nigerian Air Force, as a regular combatant officer on 22 September 1990. He was promoted to his current rank of Air Vice Marshal in November 2017. Air Vice Marshal Adesanya is an aircraft maintenance engineer, who is type-rated and highly experienced on the Alpha Jet Fighter Aircraft. He is equally experienced but not typerated on the maintenance of the C-130 Hercules aircraft. Also, without any previous formal training as a Public Relations practitioner, he has meritoriously served as the official spokesman of the Nigerian Air Force.

QUALIFICATION

  1. The senior officer holds several qualifications, some of which include the following:
  • Master’s Degree in Development Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Aeromechanical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna.
  • Diploma in Computer Engineering.
  • Certificate of Proficiency in Information Systems Management from APTECH Computer Education, Lagos.

  1. AVM OA Adesanya is a highly decorated senior officer who has also received letters of commendation from the Chief of the Air Staff and from other senior officers for diligence, outstanding performance, prudent management of resources and exemplary devotion to duty. The senior officer has various combat medals for his participation in the ECOMOG Operations from 1997 to 1999 as well as for his contributions to military operations such as Operation FOREST STORM, Operation RUWAN WUTA, Operation THUNDER STRIKE and Operation DIRAN MIKIYA in the fight against insurgency. He holds the following awards and medals, among others:

  1. Air Vice Marshal Adesanya was instrumental to the signing of a Military-Technical Cooperation Agreement between Russia and Nigeria. He is married to Omolola Adesanya and they are blessed with 4 children. He takes delight in giving motivational speeches towards helping others maximize their potentials. He is also a gifted writer with some published articles, mostly online. His other hobbies include reading, playing scrabble and table tennis as well as travelling, having visited over 35 countries across the 5 major continents. He speaks, reads and writes Yoruba, English, French, and Portuguese Languages with varying levels of proficiency, in addition to a working knowledge of the Hausa Language.
