CHIEF OF CIVIL-MILITARY RELATIONS (CCMR)
Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet iscurrently the Chief of Civil-Military Relations of the Nigerian Air Force. He is a member of 42nd Regular Course of the Nigerian Academy and holds a master’s degree in strategic studies from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He has attended several courses in public relations, crisis management and strategic communications held in Sweden, London, the United States and Nigeria. He was a UN Military Observer at MONUC (Congo DRC) between 2003-2004 and military attaché at the Nigerian Embassy in China between 2013-2016. He was a 2-time Spokesperson and Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, and former Commander of 551 Nigerian Air Force Station, Jos. He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Nigerian Institute of Management and Society for Peace Studies and Practices. He is also a Fellow of Air Force War College (Nigeria), National Defence College (Nigeria) and National Defence University (China).
Air Vice Marshal Gabkwet chaired the Committee that drafted the NAF Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response-Action Plan, which was unveiled at the last Nigerian Air Force Anniversary Seminar in May 2025. He also headed the Nigerian Air Force Civilian Harm Assessment and Investigation Cell, which has investigated allegations of civilian harms and collateral damages in Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto and Rivers States. In May 2025, he was a panellist at a UN-Tunisian Government organized Civilian Harm Mitigation Conference held in Tunisia. He also represented the Nigerian Air Force at the Nigeria-UK Dialogue held in July 2025 at London, where he discussed the numerous efforts of the Nigerian Air Force at mitigation harm to civilians especially during air operations.
He is married with 3 children and enjoys playing golf, badminton and readingbiographies as well as watching documentaries.
