Air Vice Marshal Precious Nnamdi Amadi was born on 29 June 1971 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He hails from Ozuzu in Etche LGA of Rivers State.He had his primary education at Sea Shell Model Primary School Port Harcourt, and proceeded to Federal Government College, Kaduna for his secondary education. He joined the Nigerian Armed Forces as a Cadet of the Nigerian Defence Academy Regular Course 41 in 1989. Upon completing cadet training, he was commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force to the rank of Pilot Officer on 17 September 1994. In his impressive career spanning almost 3 decades, the distinguished senior officer has served in various role cutting across operational, training, staff, command and strategic leadership functions.  

Operationally, as a seasoned fighter instructor pilot of the Nigerian Air Force qualified on several platforms, Air Vice Marshal Amadi served as a squadron pilot on the Alpha Jet at the 407 Air Combat Training Group. He also served as a squadron pilot in 101 Air Defence Group on the FT-7/F-7Ni aircraft. Thereafter, Air Vice Marshal Amadi served as an Instructor Pilot in 403 Flying Training School, Kano, with over 1,500 jet and instructional hours to his credit. Notable in his operational experiences are his participation in Operations ZAMAN LAFIYA, LAFIA DOLE and HADI KAI in the Northeast, Operation HADARIN DAJI in the Northwest, Operation WHIRL STROKE in Makurdiand Operation DELTA SAFE in the South-South part of the country. Beyond his operational experience as a pilot, Air Vice Marshal Amadi has experience as an armament officer and completed requisite qualification training. The added expertise further broadened his understanding of not just the art of flying and the employment of platforms but also the requirements of the ground crew and weapon delivery including weapon to target matching.

To attain the level of competence required to perform effectively in various operations and training functions, Air Vice Marshal Amadi attended several courses. Significant courses include the Basic Armament Officers Maintenance Course at Technical Training Group Kaduna, now Air Force Institute of Technology, Basic Flying Course at 403 Flying Training School, Kano, Advanced Flying and Tactical Fighter Course at the 407 Air Combat Training Group and F-7 Conervsion/Tactical Training at Flight Test and Training Base, Cangzhou. Others are F-7Ni Tactical Training at 101 Air Defence Group Makurdi, Instructor Pilot Training Course at Flying Instructors School, Pakistan Air Force Academy Risalpur and Instructor Pilot Upgrade/Conversion Course in 403 Flying Training School, Kano.

Air Vice Marshal Amadi’s command experiences cover a continuum from tactical through to operational to strategic levels. These experiences have broadened his spectrum of appreciation of the complexities of leadership. Notable command appointments held by Air Vice Marshal Amadi include; Commander 101 Air Defence Group, Commander 407 Air Combat Training Group, Deputy Force Commander Operation HADARIN DAJI and Air Task Commander Operation LAFIYA DOLE. In hisroles in the theatre, he oversaw a synergistic employment of Air Power to effectively support land forces in sustaining operations to stabilize the Northeast and Northwest. Other appointments include: Deputy Force Commander Operation WHIRL STROKE, Force Operations Officers, Air Task Force (ATF) Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Maiduguri, Chief of Staff at the Tactical Air Command, Makurdi, Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, the lead combat element (often referred to as the “teeth”) of the Nigerian Air Force.He also served as the Chairman Air Expo and International Liaison Secretariat, Director of Operations at Defence Headquarters Abuja and is currently the Chief of Operations at Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Abuja.

Air Vice Marshal Amadi’s unblemished and illustrious career has earned him various commendations and decorations. Some of his decorations/awards include Forces Service Star (FSS), Meritorious Service Star (MSS), Distinguished Service Star (DSS), General Service Medal (GSM), River Benue Star (RBS), Chief of Air Staff Award2015 and Distinguished Flying Medal (DFM). He has also been privileged to benefit from strategic leadership development training in notable indigenous and international institutions. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji-Nigeria and Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Ghana. He is also a Fellow of the National Defence College, Bangladesh. In addition, Air Vice Marshal Amadi holds a BSc in Biological Sciences from the Nigerian Defence Academy, MA in International Relations from the University of Ghana Legon, Masters in Strategy and Development Studies from the Bangladesh University of Professionals and Fellow Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria.

Air Vice Marshal Precious Nnamdi Amadi is happily married to Mrs Amadi, and the union is blessed with 2 children. At his leisure, he enjoys playing and watching soccer (an avid Arsenal fan), golfing, travelling and reading.
