BACKGROUND

RESUME – AIR VICE MARSHAL AY ABDULLAHI DSS psc hdmc MMS FCMH FCM OFR

 

1.​Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Yaro Abdullahi was born on 6 March 1970 in Kaduna State. He had his primary education at Kaduna Capital School between 1976 and 1981, and his secondary education at the Air Force Military School, Jos, from 1983 to 1988. He was enlisted into the Nigerian Air Force through the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy in September 1989 as a member of the 41 Regular Combatant Course, and was commissioned Pilot Officer on 17 September 1994. From there, he started his military carrier as a Pilot in the Nigerian Air Force. He is a renowned pilot, well-trained on both fighter and transport aircraft; and these include, the L-39ZA aircraft, the DO-228, C-130 Hercules aircraft as well as the 737NG among other platforms with over 5,000 flying hours to his credit.

2.​In the course of attaining his present level of professional competence, the senior officer has undergone requisite basic and advanced flying training courses both locally and internationally. In addition to flying training, he has attended several military, civil and professional courses. These include the Junior Staff Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, and the Senior Staff Course at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Accra, Ghana. He also attended the National DefenceCourse at the College of Defence Management, Secunderabad, India, and holds a Master’s Degree in Management Studies from Osmania University, India,as well as aviation related courses at the EmbryRiddle Aeronautical University in the United States among other professional certifications.

3.​Throughout his career, Air Vice Marshal Abdullahi has served in various command, staff and operational appointments across the Nigerian Air Force. Prominent among these are his appointments as Commander, 301 Heavy Airlift Group, Lagos; and Fleet Operations Officer and later Commander at the
prestigious 011 Presidential Air Fleet, Abuja. He subsequently served as Chief of Staff, Logistics Command, Nigerian Air Force, Ikeja–Lagos, before his appointment as the 47th Air Officer Commanding,Logistics Command, Nigerian Air Force. He later served as the 9th Air Officer Commanding, Air Training Command, Nigerian Air Force. In addition, he has held key operational appointments as Director of Operations, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force; Deputy Theatre Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA; and Acting Force Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA. He is currently the Chief of Policy and Plans, Nigerian Air Force.

4.​The senior officer has participated in both international peacekeeping missions and internal security operations. Internationally, he served on United Nations and ECOWAS missions in Liberia and Guinea Bissau, respectively. Within Nigeria, he participated in Operation PULOSHIELD (now Operation DELTA SAFE) in the Niger Delta, Operation LAFIYA DOLE (now Operation HADIN KAI) in the North East, as well as Operation AWATSE in the South West, among others.

5.​He has been decorated with the Distinguished Service Star (DSS), Passed Staff Course (psc), Higher Defence Management Course (hdmc), Master’s Degree in Management Studies (MMS), Field Command Medal of Honour (FCMH), Field Command Medal (FCM), and the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).

6.​Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Yaro Abdullahi is happily married, and the union is blessed with a son and two daughters. In his leisure time, he enjoys watching sporting events and documentaries, surfing the internet and reading.
