BACKGROUND

Anthony Adekunle Martins was bornon 22 October 1970 at Ebute Meta in Lagos State. He hails from Mainland Local Government Area in Lagos State. He attended Government College Secondary School Surulere Lagos between 1983
and 1988.  Thereafter, he was admitted as a member of NDA RC 42 on 17 August 1990. Adekunle was commissioned into the NAF as a Pilot Officer on 17 September 1995.

The Officer has served in various capacities at different ranks during the course of his career. He was OC Personnel Administration and Support Sqn at 81 Air Maritime Group Benin from 1997 to 2000 before posting to HQ Personnel Management Group Lagos as acting CO Personnel Data Update Wing between 2000 and 2005. His appointment as Deputy Director of Personnel Management at HQ NAF spanned from 2010 to 2013.  He served as Deputy Defence Attaché Luanda (Embassy of Nigeria) from 2014 to 2017, Command Administration Officer at HQ Mobility Command Yenagoa from December 2016 to December 2018, Commander NAF Recruitment Centre from January 2019 to December 2019. From Jan 20 – Mar 21, he was Commander 151 Base Services Group NAF Makurdi. He served as DPM HQ NAF from Mar – Dec 21 before his appointment as Comd 651 Base Services Group Ikeja from Dec 21 – Jan 23. His second tour as DPM HQ NAF spanned from Jan 23 – Sep 24 before appointment as COS HQ GTC from 9 Sep 24 - 3 Nov 25. He is currently the COA HQ NAF with effect from 3 Nov 25.

Adekunle has attended some professional military courses. His military education includes Initial Personnel Administration and Management Officer Course Kaduna in 1996, Junior and Senior Command Staff courses in 2001 and 2005 respectively at AFCSC Jaji. In 2017 he was at the National Defence College Abuja for his Defence Course. Air Vice Marshal Martins has benefitted specialization training on Recruitment and Selection Process - South Africa (2010), Disarmament/Demobilization and Reintegration - Abuja (2013) and Joint Military Attachés Course (DIC) - Abuja (2013). His highest civil qualification is MSc degree in Strategic and Security Studies from NDA. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.

AVM AA Martins enjoys driving, travelling and dancing. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Star.  Adekunle is married to Anthonia Iyorhe and blessed with 3 children - 2 boys and a girl.
