Air Vice Marshal AR SALAMI GSS psc(+) ndc MoSS MAID



1. Air Vice Marshal Akanbi Raimi SALAMI (NAF/2139) was born on 15 June 1966 to the family of Mallam and Mrs Suleiman Salami in Ilorin, Kwara State. He is from Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.He attended the Iwanu Nasir-Deen Primary School, Isale Aluko, Ilorin from 1972 to 1978 and Government Secondary School Afon, Kwara State from 1978 to 1983. The senior officer then proceeded to the then Kwara State College of Technology for his ‘Advanced Level’ studies from 1983 to 1985. Air Vice Marshal AR Salami was enlisted into the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of 38th Regular Course in 1986 and was commissioned Pilot Officer with Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1991. After his commissioning, he was admitted to the then Communications – Electronics School, 320 Technical Training Group (now Electrical Electronics Engineering School, Air Force Institute of Technology), Kaduna from 1991 to 1993 for Electronics Engineering Officers Basic Course. Thereafter, he was posted to the same School as an Instructor from 1993 to 1996. He was again posted   to 325 Ground Training Group, Military Training School as an Instructor from March 1996 to September 1996. He was later posted to Air Force Military School Jos, also as an Instructor from September 1996 to May 1997. Prior to this appointment, he had completed a 6 weeks course in Educational Theory and Teaching Methods at the Institute of Education, University of Jos.


2. Air Vice Marshal Salami has attended serveal courses both home and abroad, these include:

  • Ab-Initio Flying Training at 301 Flying Training School, Kaduna from May 1997 to December 1999.
  • Junior Staff Course 49 at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji-Kaduna.
  • Basic Flying Course at 303 Flying Training School from March 2001 to July 2004.
  • Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji-Kaduna between 2004 and 2005 as a member of Senior Staff Course 27.
  • Certificates in Managing and Maintaining Microsoft Server 2003 and Database Design & Management Systems from National Institute of Information Technology, Abuja in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
  • The senior officer subsequently attended the Aviation Theory Instructor’s Course at Aviation University of Air Force, Changchun, China from September 2008 to August 2009; where he obtained a Professional Diploma in Aviation Theory.
  • Masters in International Affairs and Diplomacy at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
  • Diploma in National Security from the Centre for Strategic Studies, Galilee International Management Institute, Israel in December 2011.
  • National Defence College, Bangladesh from January 2013 to December 2013 where he obtained Masters in Strategic Studies.


3. After his Senior Staff Course, Air Vice Marshal Salami has served in various capacity in the NAF some of which includes:

  • Equipment Maintenance Center, Ikeja as Officer in Charge from August 2005 to November 2005.
  • Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force Abuja as Staff Officer 1, Electronics Engineering at the Directorate of Electronics Engineering from November 2005 to December 2007. In December 2007,
  • Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji-Kaduna as a member of Directing Staff.
  • Commanding Officer, Academic Wing at 301 Flying Training School, Kaduna in 2010.
  • Deputy Director Training (Ground) at Headquarters Nigerian Air Force from December 2010 to January 2012.
  • Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Staff from January 2012 to January 2013.
  • Director of Communications at the Headquarters Nigerian Air Force from March 2014 to February 2019.
  • Defence Headquarters as the Deputy Director, Cyber Security Warfare from February 2019 to March 2021.
  • Director of Communications from March 2021 to January 2022. He was appointed Chief of Communications Information Systems, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force on 7 January 2022, where he currently serves.

5. Air Vice Marshal Salami is married to Barrister Amina Abdulsalami and they are blessed with 2 children; Aliyu and Asma’u. AVM Salami has a number of hobbies. Prominent amongst these are playing golf, playing squash, reading and watching football.
