TEAM HQ NAF EMERGES BEST OVERALL AS NAFCOMBAT SPORTS COMPETITION ENDS

Team Headquarters Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has emerged the best overall winner of the NAF Inter-Command Combat Sports Competition with 9 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals.  The four days competitive sporting activities dubbed ‘Jos 2017’ began on Monday, 27 March 2017 with 6 teams competing for honours. Team Training Command came 2nd with 8 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals while Team Special Operations Command  won 2 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals to clinch the 3rd position.  Team Logistics Command came 4th with 2 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals, Team Tactical Air Command with 1 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals was in the 5th position and Team Mobility Command with 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals came 6th.
Addressing participants at the end of the Competition, the Special Guest of Honour and the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello stated that the excellent skills and talents displayed during the event by participants left no one in doubt of NAF capability of defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria. While commending the NAF for organising the combat sports competition, the Governor used the occasion to acknowledge the tremendous successes recorded by the current NAF leadership.
Earlier in his remarks, the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Barrister Solomon Dalong described the combat sports competition as a platform to promote grassroots’ sports in the country. The Minister pledged the support of his ministry in the development of sports in both military and paramilitary by providing sporting facilities to boost the capacity of the athletes. “We are so proud of our military and paramilitary, they have been providing the country with talents that have made us proud but we have not invested so much in the development of their facilities”, he said.
While addressing journalists, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar said that the NAF was established to protect the territorial integrity of the country. To perform this statutory role, “we must have the right skills, endurance, the right training and spirit of competition. What we are doing has a way of impacting positively on our operations”.
