The Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Professor Usman Yusuf has called for a renewed collaboration between the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and NHIS in the area of healthcare delivery. Professor Yusuf disclosedthis today when he led a delegation of NHIS executives on a courtesy visit to the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar at the Headquarters NAF, Abuja. According to Professor Yusuf, ‘‘NHIS wishes to work together with the NAF as partners in the area of service delivery to ensure that our men and women in uniform within and outside the theatres of conflict receive adequate healthcare.’’ Professor Usman also used the opportunity provided by the visit, to laud the efforts of the Nigerian military for the restoration of normalcy in the North East.
In his response, the Chief of Medical Services (CMS), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Saleh Shinkafi, who represented the CAS at the occasion, stated that the NAF is willing to strengthen the existing partnership in order to improve its healthcare delivery noting that the NAF has contributed immensely towards the actualization of NHIS mandate as its healthcare facilities are registered NHIS centres for both personnel and civilians. The NHIS has also visited other military establishments and security agencies with the aim of ensuring effective implementation of its health insurance programmes in these institutions.
