NAFOWA INAUGURATES SKILL ACQUISITION PROGRAMME IN BAUCHI

In furtherance of its service to humanity and efforts at reducing unemployment among women and youths in the country, the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) today inaugurated another batch of 150 trainees of its skill acquisition and vocational training programme in Bauchi. The latest batch of trainees, who are mostly widows, youths and dependants of deceased personnel, would be trained in various vocational skills such as fashion designing, catering and confectioneries production, barbing and hairdressing, computer appreciation, satellite installation, interior decoration and soft furnishing, leather shoes manufacturing, among others for the next 10 weeks.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base, Bauchi, the NAFOWA National President, Hajiya Hafsat Sadique Abubakar, enjoined trainees to show commitment and diligence throughout the training period. The NAFOWA National President said the focus of the skill acquisition programme was to make participants economically productive noting that the programme was not only limited to residents of NAF Bases but had also been extended to the host communities as part of NAFOWA’s corporate social responsibility.

Hajiya Hafsat Abubakar also used the opportunity of the inauguration to pay a courtesy call on the wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Muhammad, who congratulated NAFOWA on the successes achieved so far in the area of skills acquisition across the country. “I am delighted to see that the objectives of NAFOWA include bringing about a positive change to the lives of our women and youths. One of the challenges now with most women is financial independence. No body can do it better than us because we are women and we are the ones that know where the shoe pinches”, she said.
It would be recalled that only recently, NAFOWA graduated 150 beneficiaries of its skill acquisition and vocational training programme in Port Harcourt. So far, NAFOWA has trained and empowered over 800 women and youths in Makurdi, Lagos, Kaduna, Maiduguri and Port Harcourt. The skills acquisition programme of NAFOWA has been playing a complimentary role to the efforts of the NAF leadership at improving the welfare of personnel and is thus a commendable development.
