The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reiterated its commitment to key into the Social Investment Programmes of the Federal Government of Nigeria so as to empower the youths and enhance economic activities amongst families of NAF personnel. The Chief of the Air Staff, (CAS) Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, made this known this while receiving the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Social Investment, Barrister Ismail Hammed, in his office at Headquarters NAF, Abuja on 16 November 2017.

The CAS expressed appreciation to the Federal Government of Nigeria for continually supporting the NAF to achieve its constitutional roles. He also stated that the NAF would not relent in its efforts at empowering women and youths in its barracks through impactful social investment programmes. According to him, this is being done to contribute to the economic development of the country as well as to allow NAF personnel in various theatres of operations concentrate on their assigned roles without extra distractions. Air Marshal Abubakar stated that “The NAF, in the past 2 years, has instituted various empowerment programmes. One of them is the Barracks Youth Empowerment Programme Through Agriculture (BAYETA), which has succeeded in empowering over 300 youths in different fields of agriculture ranging from crop farming, poultry, animal husbandry and others.” He added that “More so, the Nigerian Air Force Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA) has also taken it upon itself to assist the NAF in empowering over 1000 youths and women on various skills acquisition and providing them with startup packs so as to immediately commence practicing the skills they acquired”.

In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Social Investment expressed his delight for the laudable empowerment programmes being carried out by the NAF and promised to further explore more areas of partnering with the Service to eradicate poverty among Nigerians.
