The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) recently held a medical awareness lecture and screening programme on glaucoma to further enlighten its personnel in NAF Base Kaduna and interested civilians in neighbouring communities. The programme, which held on 6 June 2017, was organised by the NAF Medical Services Branch. While delivering his opening remarks, the NAF Chief of Medical Services, Air Vice Marshal Saleh Shinkafi, stated that the programme was one of the initiatives of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar to raise awareness on Glaucoma, adding that the NAF recognizes Glaucoma as a cause of irreversible blindness. He acknowledged the efforts of the CAS in placing priority on healthcare delivery to NAF personnel and their neighbouring  communities across NAF bases all over the country. Speaking at the programme, the CAS, who was represented by Air Commodore Ado Inuwa, expressed the importance of good eyesight to an individual, particularly military personnel, as it allows for maximum productivity. He equally expressed his joy at the modern equipment for the early detection of glaucoma that had been newly installed in various NAF hospitals across the country.

The NAF is committed to making timely healthcare delivery available to all its personnel and neighbouring civilians all over the country in support of the Federal Government's agenda on healthcare delivery for all Nigerians.
