Event Update

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday, 16 November 2017, laid the foundation for an ultra-modern Mammy Market at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja. The new Mammy Market, which would be managed by NAF Properties Limited (NAFPROP), is to serve NAF personnel and their families as well as members of the host communities. The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was represented at the ground breaking and foundation laying ceremony by the Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Yahaya, said the construction of the market, comprising 400 lock-up shops, was designed in conformity with the NAF’s culture of excellence. According to him, the new market upon completion “would ensure the availability of basic and affordable economic services and assure personnel on National Security operations of the well-being of their families as they leave them at home and move from one place to another to defend our fatherland”. The CAS, who expressed satisfaction about the new modern market, said it would create the avenue for families of personnel to engage in business activities on the Base without having to venture out to town for services and support.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NAF Properties Limited, Air Commodore Musa Tanko, had stated that the construction of the Mammy Market is part of the current NAF administration’s drive to improve personnel welfare through the provision of quality infrastructure. He noted that the establishment of the market was a practical demonstration of the commitment of NAF to its ethos to reinforce a culture of self-reliance and prudent management of resources. Present at the foundation laying ceremony were senior officers, both serving and retired, members of the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) and the Airmen’s Wives’ Associations (AWA). Traditional rulers from the host communities and others distinguished invited guests were also in attendance.
