Event Update

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today commissioned 2 blocks of residential accommodation on its Base in Abuja for new Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs). Each of the blocks comprises 15 units of accommodation designed to accommodate 4 NCOs per unit. Accordingly, the newly commissioned residential blocks, which are fully furnished, would accommodate 120 new NCOs. The commissioning of the new blocks was carried out, on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, by Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Lawal Alao, the Chief of Administration at the NAF Headquarters.

In his remarks at the occasion, AVM Alao stated that the welfare of personnel remained a cardinal point in the agenda of the CAS towards enabling them to concentrate on the performance of their constitutional duties. He added that similar transit accommodations were being built at NAF bases all over the country, as a way of solving the perennial challenge of accommodation faced by new NCOs especially. He then charged the beneficiaries of the newly built accommodation to ensure judicious use and proper maintenance in keeping with the high standards for which the NAF is renowned. The representative of the CAS equally seized the opportunity to appreciate the President Buhari-led Federal Government Administration, the leadership of the National Assembly and the Ministry of Defence for their respective roles in providing the needed resources to enhance the welfare of personnel as well as for the sustenance of NAF operations.

While responding, Air Commodore AG Yusuf, the Commander of 053 NAF Camp, the gaining unit, expressed the appreciation of the Unit to the NAF leadership for the sustained efforts at improving the welfare of the personnel. He also specifically thanked the NAF leadership for its efforts at solving the accommodation challenge usually faced by incoming NCOs while observing that it was the first concrete step in that regard in NAF Base Abuja. He then assured the representative of the CAS that the newly provided facilities would be put to good use and properly maintained.

Before now, new NCOs usually experienced a lot of hardship in securing befitting accommodation. However, with the new concept of transit accommodation, new NCOs would be accommodated immediately after resuming in their first units. They would also be able to receive additional military orientation during their stay in the transit accommodation before being fully integrated with the rest of the more experienced personnel in the respective bases.
