MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS TO COLLABORATE WITH NAF ON ICT DEVELOPMENT

The Federal Ministry of Communications has expressed willingness to collaborate with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in the area of Information Communication Technology (ICT) application and development. This was disclosed today by the Honourable Minister of Communications, Barrister  Adebayo Shittu while on a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar at the Headquarters NAF, Abuja. Barrister Shittu also stated that the Ministry is developing an ICT roadmap that would be beneficial to the NAF in its air operations. Furthermore, the Minister enjoined the NAF to take maximum advantage of the services provided by its parastatals in the areas of cybersecurity, spectrum administration, telecommunication and surveillance.

In his response, the CAS reiterated the readiness of the NAF to partner with the Ministry to further boost the ICT capacity of its personnel. “We are doing so much in capacity building particularly in the ICT field”, he said. According to the CAS, six officers were recently trained in the United States of America in ICT, in addition to about 200 candidates with ICT background that would soon be enlisted into the NAF. Air Marshal Abubakar equally stated that the partnership with the Ministry of Communications was necessary given the ever increasing significance of ICT in modern warfare.
