CAS DELIVERS LECTURE ON IMPACT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ON NIGERIAN AIR FORCE OPERATIONS

At the invitation of the Director General, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru (near Jos), the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, is currently delivering a lecture to the participants of Senior Executive 39 of the Institute. The topic of the lecture is "Impact of Research and Development on Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Operations: The Journey So Far". The lecture presents an opportunity for the CAS to highlight how the NAF has been effectively using a combination of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), in collaboration with members of the Nigerian academia and other relevant local companies, to improve NAF operational efficiency.

In line with the aspirations of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government Administration, the driving philosophy of Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar is "using what you make, and making what you use”. Accordingly, upon his appointment as the CAS, Air Marshal Abubakar announced his vision of repositioning the NAF into a highly professional and disciplined force. Two of the key drivers of that vision are: “strategic partnership with Ministries, Departments and Agencies for enhanced Research and Development” and “Reinforce a culture of self-reliance and prudent management of resources”. Indeed, the NAF has since recorded a number of feats towards attaining the vision of the CAS via those two key drivers.

The details of some of the successful Research and Development projects and how they have impacted on NAF operational efficiency are contained in the lecture being delivered by the CAS. The lecture also mentions some ongoing Research and Development projects in the NAF. A copy of the lecture delivered by the CAS to the current participants and possibly some pictures will be uploaded shortly.
