BAYELSA STATE PARTNERSHIP AGENCY SEEKS COLLABORATION WITH NIGERIAN AIR FORCE

The Bayelsa State Partnership Agency (BSPA) has sought collaboration with the Mobility Command of the Nigerian Air Force (NWF) to facilitate the drive for peaceful co-existence between oil companies and host communities in the State. The request for collaboration with the NAF was made by the Director General of the BSPA, Honourable Braboke Stanley Enaibagha, who was on a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of Mobility Command in Yenagoa on 17 October 2017.

In his remarks during the visit, the Director General explained that the BSPA comprises representatives of Bayelsa State Government, security agencies and oil companies, adding that the Agency was established in January 2017 to foster cordial relationship between international oil companies and communities. Honourable Enaibagha cited persistent cases of conflicts between oil companies and oil producing communities with resultant devastating effects on the country’s economy. He said he therefore deemed it necessary to visit the Mobility Command to seek possible areas of collaboration for an enabling environment in which oil companies could safely operate.

Responding, the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Mobility Command of the NAF, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Steven Onuh, commended the BSPA for visiting the Command. He stated that since inception, the Command had operated within the ambit of its mandate by providing strategic and tactical airlift in support of military operations and assistance to civil authority. In line with the mandate, he emphasized that the Command has been coordinating surveillance and air strike operations leading to the protection of oil companies/communities from the nefarious activities of illegal oil bunkerers and oil thieves in the State. The AOC further advocated that conflict management and peace building strategies, which had impacted positively in the Third World countries, could be adopted in the oil rich communities to foster peace between the oil companies and the host communities.

AVM Onuh then urged the Agency to continue with its good work in the State and expressed the Command’s readiness to respond to its demand for security.

The NAF has been resolute in its efforts at eliminating the activities of economic saboteurs in the Niger Delta, in line with its constitutional mandate.
