Chief of Training and Operations (CTOPS)
 

1.      Air Vice Marshal Nurudeen Abiodun Balogun was born on 14th April 1964 in Fiditi, Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State. He attended Saint Louis Primary School, Kano from 1969 to 1976 after which he proceeded to Federal Government College, Kano from 1976    to 1981 for his secondary education. In 1982, he enlisted into the Nigerian Defence (NDA) Kaduna as a member of 31 Regular Course. He was commissioned Pilot Officer in 1985.       

2.      He began his career in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) at the        now 401 Flying Training School, Kaduna where he attended the primary flying training course as a member of Student Pilot course SP 27       from 1986 to 1988. He also attended the Basic Flying Course at the   now 403 Flying Training School (403 FTS), Kano as a member of Basic Flying Course 10 from 1988 to 1989 where he earned his pilot wings.               In 1990, he was posted to the now 117 Air Combat Training Group, Kainji for combat training on the Alpha-Jet aircraft. He was awarded the Limited Combat Training (LCR) in 1998. In 2001, he became a Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) after attending the Instructor Pilot Course as a member of IPC3 at the 403 FTS, Kano. As a qualified jet military instructor pilot, the senior officer is a veteran of the ECOMOG operations, he has over a 1500 combat and instructional hours to his credit.

3.      In the course of his career he attended several Professional Military Education (PME) courses notably among them are the Junior Division JD 40/95 Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji (AFCSC) where he obtained the pjsc. He also attended the Senior Course 23 at the same institution from 2000 to 2001 where he was awarded the Psc. In 2007, he obtained a Diploma in Flight Safety from the Institute of Air Safety Karachi, Pakistan. Furthermore, he attended the Allied Officers War Course at the National Defence University (NDU) Islamabad, Pakistan from 2009 to 2010 where he was awarded Msc War Studies and Defence Management.   

4.      He has held several command and staff appointments some of which include;          Acting Commanding Officer, Base Services Wing, 117 Air Combat Training Group Kainji, New Bussa. Operations Officer, Nigerian Air Force, Detachment, Lungi, Sierra Leone. Commanding Officer, Fighter Wing, Nigerian Air Force Detachment, Lungi, Sierra Leone. Chief Instructor, Basic Flying Training Wing, 403 Flying Training School Kano. Commanding Officer, Basic Flying Training Wing, 403 Flying Training School, Kano. Deputy Director Offensive Operations, HQ NAF, Abuja. Commander, 105 Composite Group, Maiduguri.  Director, Technical Services, Defence Intelligence Agency, Abuja. Two times Air Officer Commanding, Tactical Air Command, Makurdi.  Director of Operations HQ NAF, Abuja. Air Officer Commanding, Training Command, Kaduna. He is currently the Chief of Training and Operations, HQ, NAF Abuja.

5.      His Service decorations include, Forces Service Star (FSS), Meritorious Service Star (MSS), Distinguished Service Star (DSS), Grand Service Star (GSS), General Service Medal (GSM), Pass Staff College (Psc), and aowc. The senior officer is also a Member National Institute of Management (MNIM). He speaks English, Yourba and Hausa.

6.      The senior officer is married with children. His hobbies include Reading, Current Affairs, Watching Documentaries Jogging, Volleyball, Swimming and Hunting.
