Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Abdullahi Iya was appointed Chief of Training and Operations Headquarters Nigerian Air Force on 3 Sep 2015. Until his recent appointment, he was Chairman Air Exposition International Secretariat and before then served as the Chief of Policy and Plans at the Defence Headquarters. The senior officer was once the Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) Tactical Air Command Makurdi from Dec 2010 to Jun 2012. Other appointments held include Commander Air Task Group Operation HARMONY Calabar (Jul 2004 -Sep 2006), Operations Officer Nigerian Air Force Detachment, Lungi Sierra Leone (Apr 1993 - Jan 1994) and Instructor Pilot on the L39ZA aircraft. Professional courses attended by the senior officer include National Defence Course (Bangladesh), Senior Staff Course (Ghana) and Junior Division Course (Jaji, Nigeria). As a fighter pilot, AVM Iya had his instructor pilot training at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas after he had completed his Undergraduate Pilot Training at Laughlin Air Force Base Texas in 1983. Iya had his primary flying training at 301 Flying Training School, Kaduna. He enlisted into the Nigerian Air Force on 15 Nov 1979 as a member of Cadet Military Training Course 5.
