Chief of Communication Information Systems (CCIS)


1.        AVM Maxwell Chukwuma Nnaji was born on 29   May 66 at Enugu in Enugu State. He had both his primary and secondary education in Enugu State of Nigeria. He was enlisted into the Nigerian Defence Academy in Sep 86 as a member of 38 Regular Course and was commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force, after a five year training period, on 21 Sep 91 as a pilot officer. He is of the Communications Information Systems Specialty (Corps). 


2.        He graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He also obtained a diploma in Educational theory and practice from University of Jos in Nigeria in Sep 1996. He holds a Master’s Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. He also holds a Master of Science Degree in Strategic Studies from National Defence University Islamabad Pakistan.

3.        He attended several military and professional courses in the course of his career. Some of the courses include Officers Basic Communication Course at 320 Technical Training Group Kaduna, Basic Airborne course at the Infantry Centre and School, Jaji-Kaduna, Computer Networking Course, Network Security and Firewall Administration course as well as Workshop Technology Course. Other Courses include the Junior and Senior Command and staff Courses at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji- Kaduna in 2000 and 2004- 2005 respectively. He also attended the Air Force War College, Karachi Pakistan from Aug 2013 t0 Jul 2014. He recently attended the Senior International Defence Management Course at Naval Postgraduate School Monterey California, US in Aug 2018.  


4.        He has served in several places and held various appointments.  They include:

a.     320 Technical Training Group, now Air Force Institute of Technology from 1992 - 1996 as an Instructor and later Head of Department of Computer.

b.     Air Force Military School Jos from Sep 96 to Dec 98, as an Senior Instructor and later Chief Instructor Military Studies.

c.     Headquarters Nigerian Air Force from 1999 – 2002 as Officer-InCharge ICT facilities in the office of the Chief of the Air Staff Nigerian Air Force. 

d.     305 Flying Training School in 2002 as Officer Commanding

Communication Squadron,

e.     Headquarters Nigerian Air Force several times and in several capacities.  In 2002 He served as the Military Assistant to the Air Officer Administration at Headquarters Nigerian Air Force (HQ NAF).  From 2005 – 2007 he also served as Staff Officer Grade One, Data Collation and Analysis Directorate of Plans. From Mar – Jun 2011 he was the Deputy Director Electrical Electronics in the Directorate of Electrical and Electronics.  

f.    United Nations Mission in Congo from Nov 2002 – Nov 2003 as a Military Observer

g.     The Presidential Implementation Committee on Maritime Safety and Security at Office of the National Security Adviser Abuja as the Staff Officer in charge of ICT from 2007-2009.

h.     Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) as a Directing Staff (DS) from 2009 - 2011 and also from 2011-2013 as Chief Instructor.

i.     105 Communications Group Shasha Lagos from 2014 -2016 as


j.     Air Force War College Makurdi from Sep 2016 – Jul 2018. At the College he was he First Director Non Acadenic Affairs and was latter appointed the Director Academic Affairs.

k.     Nigerian Air For Properties Limited from Jul 2018 – Jan 2019 as the Managing Director. 

l.     HQ NAF communications and Information System Branch from Jan 2019 till date as the Chief of Communications and Information System.

6. He is married to former miss Obianuju Nnaji the union is blessed with 4 children – 2 boys and 2 girls.


7.       His hobbies include playing squash, tennis, swimming and reading.
