Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command

1.      AIR VICE MARSHAL SAMSON OKON AKPASA, was born on 7 April 1963. He is from Akwa Ibom State and was enlisted into the Nigerian Defence Academy on 10 January 1983 as a member of 33 Regular Course. He was commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force as a Pilot Officer on 14 December 1985. As a seasoned pilot, he has flown different types of aircraft namely Boeing 737 Business Jet, Hawker 4000, HS125-800, Dornier 228. He has about 4,000 flying hours. The senior officer holds Instructor Pilot rating on Airbeetle aircraft and is equally a seasoned flying safety expert. His qualifications are LLB (Bachelor of Laws degree from Ahmadu Bello University Zaira) and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan.

2.      The Senior Officer has served as Fleet Safety Officer, Presidential Air fleet; Group Operations Officer, 401 Flying Training School; Commander, Quick Response Force Minna; Director of Plans, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force; Senior Air Staff Officer, Headquarters Tactical Air Command Makurdi; Director of Safety, Headquarters Nigerian Air force from where he was appointed as the pioneer Air Officer Commanding, Ground Training Command. He was later appointed as the Air Officer Commanding, Special Operations Command. His Medals and decorations are Distinguished Service star (DSS), Pass staff course (psc), Fellow of the Defence Collage (fdc).

3.      AVM Akpasa’s hobbies include fine arts, photography, reading and watching documentaries. He is married and blessed with two children.
